American Nurses Association Mourns The Passing Of John Garde

The American Nurses Association (ANA) joins with the entire nursing community in mourning the passing of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) interim Executive Director John Garde, CRNA, MS, FAAN. John Garde passed away last week from complications related to pancreatic cancer. John Garde will be remembered for his extensive contributions to the field of nurse anesthesia over a career that spanned 50 years. As an educator and an advocate for nurse anesthetists throughout his career, Garde was instrumental in bringing about changes that have positively impacted the quality of anesthesia care that the public receives today. His work with the AANA, as well as leadership roles at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, speak to his untiring commitment to the nursing profession. "On behalf of the American Nurses Association, we would like to extend our sympathy and prayers to John"s family, friends and co-workers for their loss and we will keep them in our thoughts through this difficult time," added ANA President Becky M.
